Celebrating the Groundbreaking of a New Waterfront Restaurant at Coronado Ferry Landing
On December 2, Coronado Ferry Landing marked a major milestone with a ceremonial groundbreaking for its newest waterfront restaurant – an eagerly anticipated addition to one of Coronado’s most iconic bayfront destinations. For us at COAR Design Group, this moment was especially meaningful as it marks our first restaurant project in Coronado, and we’re incredibly proud to be a part of it!
COAR is excited to partner with two San Diego-based companies, Social Syndicate, a restaurant development group, and Lusardi Construction, who will lead the construction efforts. Together, this team is building on Ferry Landing’s longstanding history as a gateway between Coronado and San Diego, transforming it into a vibrant new gathering place designed to serve both the local community and visitors alike.
Set along the picturesque Coronado Ferry Landing, this restaurant will become a new focal point at the beloved waterfront destination on Coronado Island, known for its boutique shops, souvenir stores, and restaurants. The new space is envisioned as an elevated coastal restaurant featuring indoor and outdoor seating and sweeping panoramic views of the San Diego Bay.
While the full concept and branding will be unveiled in the coming months, according to Social Syndicate CEO Brendan Huffman, he did share an early glimpse into the vision behind the project:
“This project is all about the island. We want it to feel elevated yet humble, with fresh coastal flavors, approachable dishes, and a welcome atmosphere for the community.”
The project’s impact plans to extend beyond the restaurant itself. Christian Herrera, VP of Development & Operations at Ferry Landing Associates, emphasized the broader impact for Coronado, saying:
“This project will bring new jobs, new energy, and a new chapter for Ferry Landing.”
Coronado Mayor John Duncan echoed that enthusiasm at the event, emphasizing just how long the community has awaited this moment:
“Coronado strives to be business-friendly, visitor-friendly, and resident-friendly. It’s been decades since we’ve been waiting for this. It’s bringing more business and more of a destination for Coronado. This restaurant is going to have one of the best views in all of San Diego!”
COAR Project Manager Barry Gartin was also excited to attend the groundbreaking event and said:
“This site offers an incredible opportunity for a restaurant. I’m thrilled to collaborate with this talented team to craft a space that will become a destination in its own right.”
With construction officially underway, we look forward to watching this long-awaited vision take shape and excited to see this restaurant come to life as a vibrant gathering place!
