Perched high above the city on the 34th floor of Symphony Towers, the San Diego University Club has long been a place where ideas are exchanged, relationships are built, and San Diego’s skyline serves as a dramatic backdrop to it all. The Club offers sweeping panoramic views that are as inspiring as the conversations happening within its walls.

To honor its legacy while preparing for the future, the Club embarked on a thoughtful renovation to re-imagine its dining, bar, and lounge spaces, aiming to elevate the member experience and create more opportunities for connection. Invited Clubs & VIVE engaged COAR early in the process to explore what was possible, beginning with a comprehensive code analysis to evaluate how the existing layout could be opened up and expanded. This included a detailed assessment of existing fire-rated walls and life safety requirements, ensuring that every design move balanced creativity with compliance.

COAR led the coordination with McParlane & Associates (MPA), Wiseman Rohy Structural Engineers, and Orness Design Group, working collaboratively to bring Invited Clubs & VIVE’s vision to life. COAR also managed the full permitting process with the City of San Diego Development Services Department, guiding the project through regulatory approvals with clarity and efficiency.

Today, the renovated San Diego University Club marks a new chapter in the Club’s story—an expanded, refined environment that reflects both its prestigious setting and its role as a gathering place for San Diego’s business and social community. With refreshed interiors and uninterrupted views of the city below, the Club once again sets the stage for meaningful connection, conversation, and community.
